About

Saint John Rock Camp for Girls and Gender Creative Kids is a free day-camp that introduces trans youth, girls, non-binary youth, and gender creative kids to the wonderful world of music making! Campers aged 10-18 learn a new instrument, form a band, and perform their original songs in a showcase on the iconic Imperial Stage! With workshops, instrument instruction, and mentorship led by local professional musicians and educators, our camp focuses on fun, safety, and inclusion! Campers will not only learn how to play an instrument, but also to take up space on stage, freedom of expression, and how to be an active member of our creative community in Saint John and New Brunswick!

Our camp location is at the wonderful Interaction School of Performing Arts, with our showcase location at the Imperial Theatre! Saint John Rock Camp is run by Saint John Music Communities, a non-profit that is run by professional musicians, arts sector workers, and educators. This camp is funded by the Greater Saint John Community Foundation, with sponsorship support from the Saint John City Market, Area 506, Cox & Palmer, Weaver-Crawford Creative, the Imperial Theatre Incubator Program, Haven Music Hall, Long & McQuade, Pristine, and Local 107.3fm

The Saint John Rock Camp recognizes and respects that it operates on the traditional, unceded territories of the Wolastoqey, Peskotomuhkati, and Mi’gmaq Peoples. Saint John Rock Camp is a camp committed to addressing the gender disparity in musical performance and music professionalism in New Brunswick. This camp aims to be a safer space free from prejudice against race, language, gender expression, sexuality, income, and disability.

Our camp runs August 21st-26th, 2023.
